As part of a grassroots "hotel week" promotion, eight New York City properties are banding together to put heads in beds at a needy time of the year — the industry downtime from January 6-15.
“Right after the holidays is notoriously the slowest period for New York City hotels," says Deirdre Yack of Hyatt 48 Lex. "The holidays are over, corporate travelers haven’t really started to ramp up, so it’s a nice little pocket of time to offer some great rates."

Sure, we have a love-hate relationship with the ever popular restaurant week, where restaurants in cities across the nation arrange to offer three-course meals for somewhere in the neighborhood of $35 for a week at a time in the spring and fall.
But we've never heard of this concept being applied to hotels. For the first time ever, New York City will host a "Hotel Week" (January 6-15) during one of the slowest occupancy weeks of the year in an attempt to boost tourism. It's a great way to experience hotels that are normally $500 a night and up, or for locals to get away for a quick staycation over MLK Day weekend.
Eight hotels (conveniently all in the same PR firm's portfolio) are offering these deals, with a one-night stay on a tiered system of $100, $200, or $250 a night. Info on how to book each property below:

"Every hotel in New York could use incremental business in January. We borrowed from the success of Restaurant Week and the fun I've had with staycations in the city," said Nancy Friedman, president of Nancy J. Friedman Public Relations. "There's nothing like escaping to an amazing hotel for a night––whether you're a local or a visitor!"
Guests can take advantage of the deals by calling the hotels directly and mentioning "hotel week" when booking, or through the hotel web site. (Booking details are listed in the above chart.) The promotion is subject to availability.

The first ever New York City "Hotel Week" happens Jan. 6 - Jan. 15, 2012, and the room rates will send you running for the Big Apple. USA Today's Hotel Check-In reports that rooms will start at just $100 a night, and can be found from Long Island City to Times Square.
The new "Hotel Week" has been fashioned from the uber-successful Restaurant Week concept. Hotel publicity firm Nancy J. Friedman Public Relations came up with the "Hotel Week" idea and told USA Today that eight NYC hotels are currently part of the project.
The hotels participating will block out rooms for $100, $200 or $250, depending on the property (the closer you get to the city, the more expensive the rooms).
Here are the hotels participating in the Hotel Week promo (be sure to mention "Hotel Week" when you book):

December 22, 2011 - usatoday.com
If you're not too holiday-partied-out between Jan. 6 and Jan. 15, 2012, you have a shot at booking a hotel in New York City - even in Times Square - for as little as $100.
The $100-a-night deals can be found for hotels such as a new boutique hotel in Long Island City or a basic hotel in Times Square that includes a continental breakfast. For $200 or $250, you can book a more upscale hotel.
So what's the deal? Eight hotels are joining what will hopefully be New York's first-ever, annual "Hotel Week," which is modeled after the ever-popular Restaurant Week concept.
Hotel publicity firm Nancy J. Friedman Public Relations came up with the "Hotel Week" idea and is kicking it off with six client hotels and two non-clients properties: the brand-new Hyatt 48 Lex as as well as Hyatt's stylish Andaz Wall Street.
Noting the success of Restaurant Week, publicist Nancy Friedman's aim is to make this an annual event.
I think it's a great idea, and one that other cities should consider.
Even though the timing follows the hectic holiday period, there are still plenty of people who could be lured by bargain rates. And the pre-holiday timing also makes it possible to buy a night or two for people on your gift list who live in the Tri-State area and seek excuses to drive into the city (hmmm...sounds a lot like my parents on Long Island!).
The hotels participating in Friedman's Hotel Week will block out rooms for $100, $200 or $250, depending on the property, so as you might expect, these rates are subject to availability.
Fine print
Are there catches? Sure. You must mention "Hotel Week" when you book. Some hotels, such as the trendy Gansevoort Park Avenue, also lists rooms for more than $250 so just be aware that you may see higher-priced - though still discounted - options. Finally, expect a basic room for the promo price, except in the case of the Pod Hotel, where the rate includes an upgrade.
The 10-day Hotel Week period - which includes two full weekends - falls in what's typically one of the slowest periods for New York City tourism.

Why Americans give more importance to Thanksgiving over Christmas remains one of lives mysteries. But with no national patron saint, the feast has a quasi religious feel, and, like the rest of the country, New York will be taken over by floats and marching bands. This year, November 24, falls on a Thursday, ideal for a long weekend. The nyma hotel - thenewyorkmanhattanhotel.com - has rates from 225 per room per night (€82pp based on two sharing) next month, while Aer Lingus has return flights from Dublin for dates around the Thanksgiving weekend from €530 - 0818 365 000, aerlingus.com)

Those wanting to visit New York for some serious retail therapy this winter should choose to stay at Nyma, the New York Manhattan Hotel over Black Friday weekend in November. Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving and kicks off the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. It's the busiest shopping day of the year - so the story goes, it's the only day where retailers are in the black not the red - with shops opening from as early as 4am offering fantastic sales and bargains.
Known in NYC as an unofficial bank holiday with many non-retail employers giving their staff the day off and with serious shoppers even camping outside their favourite stores, it pays to be in the know when it comes to what special deals each store is providing. Some of the biggest Black Friday discounts are found on hot electronic purchases such as video game systems, MP3 players and DVD players. Indeed, last year the numerous Apple Stores dotted around Manhattan were offering shoppers 30 per cent off iPods and 25 per cent off Macs!
Re-launched earlier this year with upgrades to its lobby and mezzanine areas, Nyma, the New York Manhattan Hotel has availability on Black Friday weekend (24 - 26 November) - to include Thanksgiving Thursday. Conveniently situated on 32nd Street between the bright lights of Broadway and the shops of Fifth Avenue, with Macy's on its doorstep, Nyma, the 171-room New York Manhattan Hotel is ideal for die-hard shopping fans. The budget-friendly hotel boasts a host of complimentary amenities, including continental breakfast, wi-fi, national phone calls, a fitness centre and bar. In addition, children aged 12 and under stay free of charge.
Rates at Nyma start from US$224.99 per room, per night over Black Friday weekend (under £73 per person based on two sharing). To book please call freephone 0808 178 6363 or visit www.thenewyorkmanhattanhotel.com. Flights and accommodation taxes excluded. Britishairways.com offers return flights from Heathrow to New York from £380 per person including taxes in November.

IT'S nice to get something free even when you're in one of the most expensive cities in the world. Apple Core Hotels, which owns two independent hotels in New York, The Hotel @ Times Square and nyma, the new york manhattan hotel, don't like to fleece their customers.

The nyma is situated between Broadway and Fifth Avenue, with the Empire State Building, Macy's and Madison Square Garden on its doorstep.

This autumn, New York is celebrating all things American and marking its past with a calendar of patriotic events including the opening of the 9/11 Memorial, Thanksgiving and the famous Columbia Day Parade. What’s more, nyma, the new york manhattan hotel is offering great rates, allowing visitors the chance to catch the city in all its glory and remember some key events in American history, with prices from just £80 per person.
Opening to the public on 12 September 2011, the day after the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, the 9/11 Memorial is a tribute of remembrance and honour to those killed at the World Trade Center site. The Memorial’s twin reflecting pools sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood and feature the largest manmade waterfalls in the North America.
For those planning a stay in October, New York’s abundant parks and tree-lined sidewalks will have started to turn from green to russet and visitors can enjoy the leafy delights of ‘fall’ with milder temperatures and fewer crowds.
The changing colours of New York’s leaves can be enjoyed throughout October into early November and is a truly all-American spectacle.
However for visitors wanting to enjoy the city’s faster-paced delights, on 10 October 2011 New York’s biggest street party, the Columbus Day Parade takes place. Remembering Christopher Columbus’ arrival to the Americas over 500 years ago, it draws enormous crowds, with more than 35,000 people expected to march up Fifth Avenue and fill Midtown Manhattan with music and dancing, while nearly one million people will watch.
Foodies and festive types should head Stateside for Thanksgiving, which falls on 24 November this year and marks the start of the Christmas season in the US. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is New York’s most famous Thanksgiving event. Starting in Central Park, thousands of chilly revelers line the route drinking flasks of hot chocolate, before returning home for a traditional feast of roast turkey and pumpkin pie. While the day is a national holiday throughout the US, in New York plenty of restaurants remain open, offering non-Americans the chance to try these culinary delights for themselves.
nyma, the new york manhattan hotel provides a comfortable and affordable base in the heart of Midtown Manhattan and is conveniently situated on 32nd Street between Broadway and Fifth Avenue, with the Empire State Building, Macy’s, Penn Station and Madison Square Garden on its doorstep. Hotel amenities include free Continental breakfast, free wi-fi Internet access, free national phone calls, a fitness centre and bar. Children aged 12 and under stay free of charge.
Stays this autumn start from US$254.99 per room (approx. £80 per person), based on two sharing, subject to availability. To book, please call (freephone) 0808 178 6363 or visit www.thenewyorkmanhattanhotel.com . Flights and accommodation taxes excluded.
